Parent and child at a computer

More than ever before, this past year has shown us that our kids increasingly live their lives online. They are learning, playing and socializing using an internet connection. This changes how they interact and meet friends, how they work with teachers, even how they talk to you. To many, these tools open up new opportunities, but they can also present challenges to some. For all of us as parents, it is important to learn how to recognize if our kids are having trouble and help them deal with it. We need to be able to teach them how to stop challenging interactions, protect their privacy while allowing to make the most of opportunities internet and technology present.  This is how we will  ensure our kids and the whole Featherston community has tools to thrive in a digital world.

The Raising Ethical Kids For a Networked World parent webinar covers some of the moral dilemmas kids face in their online activities. Presenters will share practical strategies to help parents work with kids to build the social and emotional intelligence to support ethical decision making – as well as build resiliency if things go wrong.

The session will focus on respect for:

  • people’s personal information by not oversharing.
  • people’s feelings by not participating in bullying or being a passive bystander; and
  • intellectual property by understanding copyright and plagiarism.

Session is presented by Media Smarts, a Canadian not-for-profit charitable organization that has been producing digital and media award-winning resources and programs for over 20 years.

To attend, we ask that you pre-register by sending an email to Maja Strika, School Council Chair, at [email protected]. We also invite you to submit questions in advance of the session to Maja and she will share them with the presenters.

We hope you will join us!
