Hello to all Featherston Drive families!
It is hard to believe one full year has gone by since my arrival at Featherston Drive PS. It was an incredibly rewarding year - one that was made as exciting and as memorable as possible thanks to the help of dedicated staff, engaged parents/guardians, and hard-working student ambassadors. I hope you have all enjoyed a summer filled with joy, laughter and quality time with family and friends.
To be part of a setting where a Living School philosophy (the desire for a more positive and innovative school culture) has been adopted and embraced by both staff and students continues to be a blessing. Everyone in our building understands that being happy corresponds to improved academic achievement and well-being. Our multiculturally diverse student population demonstrates genuine kindness towards others. I see students of all ages treat their peers in our Autism classes with the utmost respect; this is a credit to our teachers who ensure meaningful, authentic experiences, within and among learning groups, are thoughtfully implemented. I see active student and staff participation in impactful initiatives such as the Environmental Club, Leadership Club, Diversity Club, Hackergals and Shannen’s Dream (just to name a few). These opportunities make explicit connections with current global awareness issues, and consequently enable our students to make responsible choices and decisions affecting the larger-scale population.
One of the greatest ways to support students in their academic and extra-curricular pursuits is through effective communication between the school and a student’s home. Do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, the Vice-Principal, or me, should you have any questions or concerns. We will communicate school-wide information to you through a variety of media such as School Messenger emails, website calendar updates, newsletters, Twitter (FDPS handle: @FeatherstonPS), and notices sent home in your child’s backpack.
We are proud to be Featherston Flames, and our flame will burn brighter than ever as we continue on our educational journey together in 2019-20. I am confident we will continue to accomplish great things now that we are well rested and fully recharged for the year ahead.
