Welcome to Featherston Drive Public School! I am excited to be among FDPS students and staff as we learn together.
Bienvenue à l’école Featherston Drive PS. J’ai hâte de joindre les élèves et le personnel, et de tout ce que nous apprendrons ensemble.
Every day in education brings its joys and challenges. For students, I often repeat that my two main jobs are “to keep you safe and to help you learn”. Everything else unfolds from there.
Featherston Flames are determined, dazzling, and dedicated. Cherche à te dépasser chaque jour. It is up to you to be the best learner and best person you can be! Tes enseignants sont prêts à t’aider dans tes apprentissages. Strive for excellence. Look for opportunities to help others. The more you invest in kindness and gratitude, the more we invest in a positive and dynamic school.
In my professional background, I have the pleasure of teaching at elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels. At one time, I was a math and chemistry teacher, at another as a guidance counselor, and further still, a professor with the B.Ed. program at the University of Ottawa. My career has allowed for teaching and administrative experiences in Ontario both at OCDSB and for the RCDSB in Deep River; as well as in Scotland, Belgium and Bahrain in the Middle East. My past OCDSB schools include Gloucester HS, Elizabeth Wyn Wood Alternate, Featherston Drive PS, Mutchmor PS, and Rockcliffe Park PS.
As part of my overseas experiences, I had the honour of serving as Principal of the Canadian Armed Forces school at a NATO base in Belgium and as the Senior Education Officer for DND, I focused on teacher recruitment and educational policy. Our family joke was that I was saving the world one policy document at a time.
In other parts of my life, my time is purging the house while my two children are away at university (Dalhousie and Queen’s), walking with my West Highland Terriers and knitting to keep myself quiet as I heal from an accident in 2022. I hope to return to triathlon training once healed. Secretly, I listen to country music during all the driving, walking and knitting.
Did you know when a Flame shows good character, its colour turns golden? How will you be a Golden Flame today?
