We often receive requests for us to help students to take medication during the school day. For the safety of all students, medications should stay at home, unless they are stored and/or administered in the office (medications such as asthma inhalers are exempt).
The Ministry of Education and the OCDSB identify the conditions under which students may bring medication to school and for staff to administer it. Before medication can be administered, appropriate forms must be signed by the prescribing physician and by the parent granting permission for school staff or the pupil to administer the medication. Principals are required to store all medication in a locked container. Schools are required to have a new form completed for each school year. Please see below for the appropriate form; you may also ask at the office for a hard copy or to help you choose which one you might need.
